Let the GLAM shine! Planning the year 2014
ByGLAMster meet up in Hannover
10 Wikipedians and Wikimedia Deutschland staff discussed and exchanged experiences on their GLAM activities since March 2013, when we had our last meeting in Kaufbeuren. The focus was on the strategy for the coming year. It became obvious to us all, that working the GLAM field takes a long breath. We definitely need means to make it easier for beginners to edit the Wikipedia. Both the teahouse approach promoted by User:Bücherwürmlein and the cooperation with regional wikis as User:Hubertl suggested are considered, but also the creation of new learning tools. Next year the focus for Wikimedia Deutschland will be continously to enable and support GLAM initiatives of the Wikimedia-movement and to ease the publication of content under free licenses by consulting GLAM institutions and providing information. Thanks to User:Marcus Cyron we could round up the meeting by visiting the August Kestner Museum and the first photos of the archeological collection were taken and uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. For more details in German on the meet up please check in the Wikipedia and read the blog.
Public broadcasting station ZDF meets Wikimedia
This month, Tim Moritz Hector, Wikipedian in Residence at "Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen" (check May report) and Barbara Fischer gathered with staff members of ZDF to provide them with closer insights into the Wikipedia universe. About two thirds of the participants of ZDFcheck, a collaborative format to check statements of politicians, are Wikipedians now and, for example, more than 30 info graphics were created and released under CC-BY-SA. Find more information on the project page of ZDFcheck and about the residency on the WMDE-Blog.
