October Report
BySuperstars of STEM
On the 7th of October 2023, in collaboration with the Superstars of STEM Science & Technology Australia, and Wikimedia Australia, we held an edit-a-thon to highlight the achievements of Australian women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
The event facilitated some great networking opportunities between Women in STEM and Wikimedia Australia's volunteer member base. Together, we edited and created Wikipedia articles to showcase the achievements and contributions of women in STEM fields.
There were three locations for the edit-a-thon, including two in-person venues in Melbourne and Sydney, and also an online session to support those who could not attend in person. The event culminated in the editing of 56 articles, the addition of 177 references, and the incorporation of nearly 14,800 words. The dashboard is available to view on our Outreach Dashboard.
We take immense pride in these accomplishments and want to thank our Wikimedia Australia members and the Superstars of STEM edit-a-thon participants for their support and contributions to the event.
Wikimedia Australia Partner Projects highly successful
Wikimedia Australia has been actively supporting free knowledge as part of their commitment to fostering open-access information.
Earlier this year we announced an Expression of Interest, and then funded four Partner Projects grants, aiming to educate and empower organisations through furthering their knowledge and engagement in contributing to Wikimedia projects and platforms.
Projects were selected to align with our strategic priorities on regional Australia, gender equity and First Nations perspectives.
These four remarkable Partner Projects have now concluded with a range of successful outcomes for the organisations and Wikimedia platforms, benefitting local and global communities. Read more on our website.
