Wikimedia Portugal joins Open Access Week with webinars on copyright and Creative Commons
To commemorate International Open Access Week, Wikimedia Portugal organized a couple of webinars in collaboration with two different universities, NOVA FCSH and University of Algarve. Focusing specifically on the copyright exceptions for teaching and research, the sessions highlighted the latest updates to the Portuguese copyright law (due to the most recent European Union copyright directive), framing Creative Commons licences as the default options for retaining rights while ensuring the best practises for open access. The webinars had a combined attendance of nearly 50 people, mostly researchers and librarians, as well as science managers and other support staff working with scientific publishing.
The slides are available on Commons (in Portuguese).
Wiki Editoras Lx partner with BANTUMEN for an edit-a-thon dedicated to black lusophone women, trans and non-binary people
On October 28th, local user group Wiki Editoras Lx (WELx) organized an edit-a-thon dedicated to black lusophone women, trans and non-binary people. The meeting was curated by Vanessa Sanches, from BANTUMEN, a local news outlet focusing on the black lusophone community. The group welcomed various new editors, who travelled long distances to reach Lisbon on that (very!) rainy day.
