How should I connect with the GLAM-Wiki community?

If you are a cultural professional or a Wikimedian interested in discussing cultural partnerships, please join the open GLAM@ mailing list

If you are interested in North American cultural partnerships, please consider also joining the open GLAM-US@ mailing list

There is also a (rarely used c.2020) restricted-access mailing-list for discussing cultural partnerships. You can request access to the cultural-partnerships-l@ mailing list (and archives) by following the instructions below.

If you are on Telegram, this channel has an active conversation:

If you are on Facebook, the following groups are high signal to noise, and have become more important channels for communication:

  • GLAM-Wiki Global: a group focused on Global GLAM collaboration and questions
  • Wikipedia + Libraries: a group focused on the particular examples and applications of Wikimedia projects in libraries
  • Wikidata + GLAM: a group focused on Wikidata applications in GLAM-Wiki

You may also join our IRC channel at #wikimedia-glam connect on freenode, where there are often interested users willing to talk about GLAM projects. For more information see the IRC guide.

Other mailing lists

The canonical list is at m:Mailing lists/Overview containing a full listing of Wikimedia movement mailing-lists with descriptions and notes.

Restricted-access list

If you are a Wikimedian interested in discussing cultural partnerships, please join the cultural-partnerships-l mailing list by following the instructions below. Wikimedians are encouraged to join the active conversations there. It is a closed (restricted-access) list only so that we may discuss not-yet-public, forthcoming projects and honestly analyse past projects. Please note that this list is for Wikipedians, not for GLAM staff members. Exceptions can be made in the following cases -

  • you are an active Wikipedian who also happen to work at a GLAM
  • you are a staff member of a free cultural non-profit organization (but not directly on staff at a GLAM institution).

How to request access to the closed list

Note: You do not need to request access here if you just want to join the open lists!

The closed list is meant for discussions that may refer to future objectives or some other subject that one does not want to appear (yet) in public archives. If what you want to say in an email is not sensitive in this way, please post it in the appropriate public list (which also has a much broader reach). The closed list is meant for Wikimedians only. Representatives of GLAM organisations may also request subscription, but only if they are also Wikimedians in their own right.

New subscription requests to this list should be proposed here listing: Name, username, home wiki and/or Chapter and a brief description of your Wikimedia work that relates to GLAM outreach.

Please be sure to add the email-address if you would like to be subscribed. If you are not interested in your e-address appearing on this page, please send it to osamadre﹫hotmail.com.

Subscription requests will be notified to the mailing list and give a few days for comment. No support/oppose voting is required and unless comments or questions are raised (which can be answered by the requester here) then a request will be approved. Archived requests can be found at GLAM/Connect/Archive <

Example:

Napoleon Bonaparte

French Wikipedia, user:Boney, Napoleon.B﹫wikimedia.org.fr. I have been working on 'liberating' Europe's museums for several years now.

After following these steps, please remember to subscribe to the closed list by following the link cultural-partnerships-l

Hey guy, Brazilians are starting some GLAM activities (sample 1 2, yeap, two different WUG...), I'm in a conversation to another museum. And I'm old at Commons so I interacted with GLAM projects there, and when I was at Wikimedia Brazil (2008-2013†), I read a lot about GLAM, so I'm helping in the best I can, however some infos are not that clear, and would be good to have more knowledge in Brazilian community.
