New issue of Wikimedia Education Program Newsletter - Invitation to publish

[edit]

Hi Masssly, we are now preparing to wrap up a new issue of our beloved newsletter! As you are volunteering as a publication leader, I wanted to ask if you would like to engage in publishing a new issue of our newsletter. In order to do that, you can find the guidelines here. Stories in the Newsroom will be reviewed by tomorrow, Wednesday, February 22. Would you like to engage in this way? You would need to prepare three publication formats. Ideally, we would have the newsletter published on Tuesday, March 1st at 12 (PST).
Let me know as soon as you are able if you can engage in this way. Thanks, María (WMF) (talk) 22:22, 23 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi María (WMF), I am happy to engage in publishing the letter this way, beginning with the March Issue. You mentioned that stories would be reviewed by tomorrow Wednesday 22 (I'm sure you meant 24th), implying that I could begin preparing the three publication formats thereafter. That sounds good. Will I get pinged when the review process is done, or is there any other way I could tell?
Hi Masssly, thanks for getting back to me! The review process is done! Sorry about the date mistake. You can start any time you want with the publications. You can find guidelines here. Let me know if you need any help!
Best, María (WMF) (talk) 15:40, 25 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
The pages have now been created. I see previous issues have translation markers in other languages (I am not familiar with it). How do I handle those?—M@sssly 22:36, 25 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi —M@sssly,
I think Subhashish took care of the translation tags earlier today (see here). Is the newsletter ready to be distributed? Do you need any other support? Please let me know! Best, María (WMF) (talk) 21:02, 1 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

@MCruz (WMF):Ow now I see how the translation tags are included, thanks.
Yes "the newsletter [is] ready to be distributed".
I think it actually has been distributed already. This particular distribution appeared different from what I received in past Issues.
I was asking @Rberchie and @Saileshpat about that today.—M@sssly 21:45, 1 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hey Masssly, I didn't distributed the newsletter. It was Raphael who did that. I was contacting @MCruz (WMF): regularly regarding the updates on newsletter publishing.--Saileshpat (talk) 21:53, 1 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Masssly, Sailesh: thank you for your hard work on this! I have talked with Sailesh on Facebook messenger, and he will distribute the newsletter again in the morning of Wednesday, IST. Masssly, he still needs the Headlines edition.
You mentioned that all the pages were created for publication, could you please point to this page? Could you also please post the current newsletter content to the News page? If you need any help, please let me know!
@Rberchie:: Please note Sailesh is already working on the distribution! I'm sending you an email to let you know how you can get involved in the next issue, if you'd like . María (WMF) (talk) 22:17, 1 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

The Headlines edition is at Education/Newsletter/March 2016.
I need help to "post the current newsletter content to the News page", I tried both the New and Old ways but they both did not work.
Thanks! —M@sssly 23:27, 1 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Newest edition of Education Newsletter, September 1st

[edit]

Hi Masssly,
Pleasure to meet you! My name is Loreen Ruíz and I am an intern at WMF who is currently working with Maria and the Education Collaborative to start an education campaign. I wanted to let you know that we are currently preparing to release another issue of the Education Newsletter on September 1st, and that we would love to have your support with the publication of the Newsletter. I am also giving the other members of the Newsletter team a heads up. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I wish you a great week. Loreen.Ruiz (talk) 02:37, 10 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi User:Loreen.Ruiz. Thanks for the heads up. Is the newsletter newsroom content ready? I can begin creating pages for the upcoming issue this weekend :-) Thanks. —M@sssly 12:46, 11 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi Masssly. Thank you for the quick response! I don't believe the content is quite ready yet (the submission deadline is the 22nd), but I will make sure to keep you updated. Loreen.Ruiz (talk) 14:07, 11 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi again Loreen.Ruiz, Checking back on the state of the newsletter newsroom content. Thanks —M@sssly 22:57, 26 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hello Masssly. I'm beginning copyediting the newsletter content now. I apologize for my late start, but as I told Loreen.Ruiz here, I've been busy with the start of the new school year in California. If you need help producing this issue of the newsletter, please let me know. Saileshpat said here that he cannot help until September 3 because of his exams in school. And Christian Cariño has not replied here yet if she can help or not. So if you need some additional support, please ask me and I will do all I can. I will post here again very soon when I complete the copyedits. All the best, Msannakoval (talk) 03:52, 29 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hello again, Masssly. I have completed copyediting several articles in the newsroom. I wanted to let you know which ones so that you could begin work on your part.
  • YesY Done Cairo University students wrap up their eighth term and start their ninth term on WEP
  • YesY Done West African schools will test Kiwix, the offline Wikipedia reader
  • YesY Done Psychology students of Uludag University are very proud of contributing Turkish Wikipedia
  • YesY Done Wiki Workshop at Saint Petersburg Internet Conference 2016 in Russia
  • YesY Done Programs and Events Dashboard Update
  • YesY Done Online wiki training for educators in Greece
I wish I had been able to finish editing all of the articles tonight. There are just so many this time and many of them are very long. I will aim to finish by tomorrow evening PDT. Thanks, Masssly. Msannakoval (talk) 07:22, 29 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Msannakoval: Thanks for the heads up. I will begin work on my part tomorrow and should be done by EOD 30/8 GMT. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Masssly (talkcontribs) 23:20, 29 August 2016‎

┌─────────────────────────────────┘
@Masssly: Thanks to you for your reply. I've finished copyediting two more articles.

  • YesY Done Brazilian Wikimedians interview editor of academic journal Wiki Studies
  • YesY Done Egyptian Wikimedians celebrate eighth WEP conference

These are the articles that I still need to copyedit:

  • Outcomes report on a Wikipedia Course “Skills for Producing and Consuming Knowledge”, Tel Aviv University
  • Wikipedia as a Teaching & Learning Tool in Medical Education at IAMSE Medical Education Conference
  • Video projects redefine student Wiki work and student community service
  • Armenian students inspire their parents to join Wikipedia
  • "Writing a new article is a special experience that happens every time as new"

I will be done with my part by midnight PDT today 30 August.

I wrote to Loreen and asked her here about any links for the "Articles of interest in other publications" section.

I wrote to Walaa and asked her here about combining her two articles into one. So you might want to wait before preparing pages for them until she replies.

All the best, Msannakoval (talk) 14:04, 30 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Msannakoval: Noted. Thanks : -)
Hi, Msannakoval & Masssly, I can spend few hours for the distribution of newsletter, It's not an issue now .--Saileshpat (talk) 16:13, 30 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi Saileshpat. Happy to hear from you. Thanks for this update. Glad it all worked out. Good to know that we can count of your support with another newsletter issue. All the best, Msannakoval (talk) 06:08, 31 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Masssly: @Saileshpat: YesY Done Copyediting is done. Still no reply from Walaa about combining her two articles into one. Maybe it's best to proceed with them as is for now. I'm very grateful to you both for your work on the WEP newsletter. Please let me know if you need anything more from me. All the best to you both, Msannakoval (talk) 06:08, 31 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Msannakoval: Thanks for completing the copyedit. Articles of interest in other publications is still empty. I guess we will distribute this issue without that section.
@Saileshpat:YesY Done creating the pages. Let me know if I missed anything or if there is something else you would need.—M@sssly 14:38, 31 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Masssly: I had asked User:Loreen.Ruiz about any "Articles of interest in other publications" links from the WEP team at WMF here. She still has not responded yet. Msannakoval (talk) 03:32, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
We have one article for that section now.—M@sssly 09:58, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi —M@sssly,
thank you so much for your support in publishing a new edition of the Education Newsletter!
It seems that there are a few problems with the creation of the new pages.

  1. The subnavigation bar for section News is gone. Could we put it back, please?
  2. We can currently see the <translate>. Could we please fix this?
  3. Are all three versions of the newsletter published already?

Looking forward to hearing from you! Best, María (WMF) (talk) 21:03, 31 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello @MCruz (WMF):
  1. I see the News sub-navigation bar, might you be referring to something else?
  2. Not sure why the translation tags are appearing. It seems to me like only wiki admins can mark a page for translation. The En versions I created manually still display "This page contains changes which are not marked for translation". Any ideas?
  3. Yes, all three versions are published. See Headlines Highlights Single page edition

—M@sssly 09:27, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Dear Masssly, Maria, Anna & Loreen, I have distributed the newsletter in mailing lists, Facebook group and subscribers group. Can someone tweet about the newsletter from the twitter account?--Saileshpat (talk) 13:27, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Translation tags on Education/News

[edit]

Hi Maria, I have looked at the markup on Education/News and still don't know why the translation tags are appearing. Might you know where I could get help?

Volunteering on the Education Program newsletter

[edit]

Hi Masssly, we are preparing to begin the process of publishing the Education Program Newsletter, now with a new format and monthly issues. I see that you have been involved as a publication leader in the past. Are you still interested in participating in this capacity? Would love to speak with you more about what you've done in the past, and what you're interested in working on in the future!

All the best --NSaad (WMF)

Hi NSaad (WMF)! I am still interested in participating as publication leader for the Education Program Newsletter and I'm happy to speak with you. Kindly email me with some suggested times in multiple days. Thanks! —M@sssly 22:13, 1 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Masssly! I'll be in touch soon. --NSaad (WMF) (talk) 22:32, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Masssly, I'm afraid I don't have your email. Could you kindly email nsaad﹫wikimedia.org so that we can arrange a time to discuss the newsletter. Would you be interested in working on publication? We are also in need of copy editors. In terms of publication, the process will be a bit different this time because we have a new format. Looking forward to working with you! --NSaad (WMF) (talk) 19:54, 21 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Email sent.—M@sssly 07:22, 22 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

Newsletter not published

[edit]

Hi Masssly, I just see the published Newsletter of March and I can't find this one, which I wrote on 25 March 2017. Any reason of that? Thanks. Walaa--لا روسا (talk) 20:34, 1 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

It will be published in this month's edition. Watch for it on April 30th :) --NSaad (WMF) (talk) 18:56, 21 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

April Edition of Education Newsletter

[edit]

Hi Masssly, I hope this finds you well! Are you able to help publish the newsletter this month? I have outlined the new publication guidelines which I hope are straightforward and easy to follow! Let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks! --NSaad (WMF) (talk) 18:56, 21 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes I'm available to publish this month's newsletter. Thanks for notifying me.—M@sssly 11:08, 22 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
@NSaad (WMF): Can you help me with which article goes where; "featured", "from the community", "from the team”, "in the news". —M@sssly 16:48, 22 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Of course! But somehow all the drafts are gone from the newsroom. When I figure it out, I can tell you about the articles. --NSaad (WMF) (talk) 17:02, 24 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
They are located in Category:Education/Newsletter/April 2017. Because by default new article drafts reside in Category:Education/newsletter/drafts they'd keep showing up in the "Current Drafts" section in the newsroom even after they are copy-edited and we've published the newsletter. That's why I took the time to place them in their own category, same for the previous months; [1] and [2].—M@sssly 20:26, 24 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Oh, ok! Nice. So here are the articles by category. I am waiting on one article that will be put together by the organizers of the education session at WMCon17, and they said they will have it by tomorrow. Otherwise it looks like this:
